Backed by the Financial Times, Sifted, is a news website that focuses on the European Startup World. Sifted has featured Poland’s startup ecosystem in the past and its articles on Krakow’s startup scene and the ‘toxic’ public money in Poland were widely shared and debated within the community. Now, their team has just released a list of top 20 startups to follow in 2020. Interestingly 10 out of 20 startups are based in Krakow!
About the List
Based on the data taken from Dealroom.co, Sifted’s list defines the startups’ valuation, key product, employee growth and funding stage. It also provides its own insight on the startup under ‘Sifted Take’.

We are not surprised to see the dominance of Krakow startups in the list given that Startup Poland’s report places Krakow’s ecosystem as the second most growing ecosystem in Poland. We would have liked to see ‘Sifted Take’ on all of the startups listed and not just the top 3.
Also, we feel that HCM Deck, the HRTech startup that fetched PLN 12 Million in funding last year should have been included. Another startup that should have made the list is the fast-growing travel startup, Bidroom. Although Bidroom was founded in the Netherlands, its original founder is now primarily based in Krakow. Their Krakow office is rapidly expanding controlling most of the operations of the startup so Bidroom is a Krakow-based startup lead by a foreign founder.
Sifted is doing an excellent job bringing the latest news and updates from European startups to the forefront and we hope to see more exciting news about Krakow startups from them soon.
